Phyllo Dough:
16 ounces phyllo dough (thawed according to package instructions)
1 ยผ cups unsalted butter (melted)
Nut Filling:
1 pound walnuts (finely chopped)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Syrup:
1 cup granulated sugar
ยพ cup water
ยฝ cup honey
2 tablespoons lemon juice

how to cook step by step

  • Prepare the Nut Filling:
  • In a bowl, mix the finely chopped walnuts with ground cinnamon.
  • Assemble the Baklava:
  • Preheat your oven to 175ยฐC (350ยฐF).
  • Brush a 9×13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  • Layer 10 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter before adding the next.
  • Spread a thin layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo.
  • Repeat the process, layering 5 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter, and then adding the nut mixture. Continue until all the nuts are used.
  • Finish with a top layer of 10 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.
  • Cut and Bake:
  • Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes, or until golden and crisp.
  • Prepare the Syrup:
  • While the baklava is baking, combine the sugar, water, honey, and lemon juice in a saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • Finish the Baklava:
  • Remove the baklava from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over it.
  • Let it cool completely before serving.
